it is going to become a humanitarian disaster, millions dead, martial law, refugees flooding into canada, the lot

it's a perfect storm:

- they're idiots, totally ignoring social distancing and fighting the virus with prayer
- unfit in general, how many americans have underlying health conditions, virtually all of them?
- healthcare system is shit unless you have good insurance but that will still be overwhelmed quickly
- poor workers and renters rights so millions will feel they have no choice but to go to work regardless. The only ones isolating are the rich, singing on twitter

More staggering unemployment figures are coming out of the United States.

Some 6.6 million people filed for unemployment benefits last week. That takes the total number of claims in the last three weeks to more than 16 million - truly unprecedented figures.

To put these numbers in context - nine million jobs were lost in the 2008 financial crisis over a much, much longer period.

All these cunts would die of flu anyway

Apart from 0.0001% who are apparently healthy

Like in this country only about 10 people under the age of 40 with no underlying health issues have died

Malcolm Tucker
05-05-2020, 11:26
 Nah it's several hundred healthy 14-30 year olds I think, that was from a week or so ago as well. That isn't the problem really, those are tragic but yes like you say, low numbers.

The oldies are dying the most but to a certain extent yeah their number is up. Something was going to kill them soon anyway, heart condition, stroke, even flu yeah.

The main issue IMO is the upper middle aged, moreso men, in their 60s, 50s and even 40s. Normal flu wouldn't be killing them, put them on their arse for a week maybe, but this is a real danger to them and it seems it fucks men up whereas comparable women tend to fair much better.

The manager at a mate's work died from it, 42, no health conditions. Struggled to breath properly after a week of bed rest, coughing up horrible shit, took him to hospital, his wife not allowed to see him after he was loaded into the ambulance. She was able to relay a message to him via the nurse before going on the ventilator but died in the middle of that same night. These are the people dying in their thousands way before their time.

Frank Castle
05-05-2020, 11:30
Yeah but it’s medical negligence killing them. Or the wrong treatments

Apparently it causes bleeding and clotting in the lungs not pneumonia, so anti coagulants are the recent break thru And breathing help via CPAP

And 80% of patients with CV19 put on a ventilator have died. Wrong medication and wrong breathing support

It's because you go hypoxic when you're not breathing properly, you can sit and gasp under a normal o2 mask all you want but if your blood still isn't oxygenating enough all your organs start dying, all at the same time as well.

Ventilation is the last resort, it's shit but it's the best they can do, force oxygen into the body and hope you pull through. The 80% died but 20% survived, if none of them had been given ventilation support its likely 100% would have died, they don't put you on mechanical ventilation unless they're convinced you'll die without it. There isn't an alternative treatment at that point.

Frank Castle
05-05-2020, 12:27
I disagree with their implementation of the ventilator. They have been using them well before they are needed from the Whistleblowing anecdotes i’m seeing from medical professionals al over the world

You sure you're in better shape than these lot then? :chin:

There's a viral load and or genetic component going on as well that is behind these sorts of deaths. Some might have had asthma, despite being active, but millions are asthmatic to some degree, it's a pretty broad "well they must have had an underlying condition" type clause for people dying.

Bear in mind these stats are despite a lockdown, imagine if it was business as usual with no special measures. You don't really get to dismiss the bite of a tiger if it's been muzzled.

Sooner the antibody test is rolled out the better. They should do people who went to the docs in Nov-Jan with a persistent cough, and beyond that some kind of postcode lottery to get some random samples across the UK for if it's widespread or not.

Personally I don't think it is, but it'd be great if it was, more immunity out there the better

Frank Castle
05-05-2020, 20:24
Yeah but I heard the anti bodies only stay in your blood for a couple of months max after recovery

Malcolm Tucker
06-05-2020, 17:19
It's not fully understood, a lot of it is caveated because this is a novel virus but typically antibodies last long enough to make these tests worthwhile. With SARS it was about a year, sometimes longer before no trace of antibodies were found in a recovered patient. Because this one is closely related, the thinking is if you've had it <12 months they should be able to tell. I believe trials are underway for people who had a diagnostic positive for COVID-19, so definitely had it, and are then undergoing regular anti-body tests to determine exactly what happens afterwards.

The scary thing is that if you simply do not produce anti-bodies for very long, and we are unable to produce a vaccine, then we're screwed. There will no such thing as herd immunity and we will just have wave after wave. People who had it in March could fall victim to it September all over again. Our best bet then would be to simply maintain social distancing and make it hard for the virus to spread, eventually natural selection would result in the weaker strain (which produces fewer symptoms and being harder to spot) doing the best and becoming relatively harmless.

Based on what I understand, none of that is the likely outcome. Once you've had it, you'll almost certainly have some level of immunity to it and to future strains of it. As you get reinfected you'll get barely noticeable symptoms, if the virus is able to replicate at all within your body. In the same way a lot of people had some level of immunity to swine flu due to previous exposure to other strains of influenza, whether it be contracting it or via vaccinations. That meant it struggled to spread and take hold in the same way a novel virus does.

I also think a vaccine will happen, they talk about the fact we haven't created a vaccine for the other coronaviruses yet so why would this one be different? Well, I doubt there's been the same political pressure and financial impetus on other coronavirus research as there will be on this one.

Not that surprising with all the protest bullshit.

Malcolm Tucker
27-06-2020, 15:53
The main drivers of the rise is from the southern states which didn't have many BLM protests, if at all.

I think it's more likely because states like Alabama and Florida were always half arsed with this and to compound that kinda acted like there was literally no risk any more, shunned what little measures they had been taking like masks and distancing. Not just with bars and restaurants, but going in each others houses again like nothing has happened. I mean, if you listen to some of these town halls it's just completely bonkers, they're in absolute denial there's a pandemic at all, it's all just one big democrat plot to take their freedoms (aka guns) away.

There's still a long way to go but I think there's some mileage in the theory he will resign before then if he concludes he isn't going to win. We all know the story that Clinton led in the polls and look what happened there and everything, but I dunno, feels different this time. The past few weeks he seems totally lost even for him, no strategy and for the first time I think, ever, he's getting negative and mopey about losing:

[Biden] is going to be your president 'cause some people don't love me, maybe, and you know, all I'm doing is doing my job.

As with everything with Trump, it will boil down to winning/losing and if he can't see a win via the election, he'll just resign as some kind of martyr, manufacture a moral victory out of it, carry on doing his rallies as a weird sort of exiled President who dared to speak the truth.

Yes, there is that too. Even his ex strategist Bannon is calling him out on it. The rallies make no sense, yes the faithful base go to them and lap it up but they'll cheer any old shit. His campaign is 'Keep America Great' which sets him as the continuity candidate, but his rhetoric and speeches are all about change. They're literally the same as when he was running first time, except now, like Bannon says, you can't do that when you're the incumbent. Not only does it make no sense but it's squandering the biggest advantage an incumbent has; backing up words with some action while on the trail, actually being Presidential and doing something about the problems rather than just whining about them night after night at the podium. It's why when even Hannity lobs him soft balls like "What would your second term look like?" he absolutely bollocksed it up and started talking about Bolton betraying him and then, and you'll never believe it, some criticism of Obama.
