According to the article he had a clean UK driving license with no prior motoring offences, so I don't think this was completely foreseeable.

If it's about working hours and breaks and stuff like that, then I would share your concerns about spreading people too thinly but that would that not apply to Stobarts in general, rather than this specific driver?

That's a contrived link because there's no evidence that this crash was a result of his contract with an agency, you've just assumed it because he's Polish and therefore must be one of those from the Toynbee article. There's no details on the circumstances of the crash other than him falling asleep, but people do that on the road all the time and it's often unrelated to work. What if he'd been kept up by his neighbour playing DJ Himmler all night? Even if it was down to his working hours, it also just as easily happens to Brits, even if there's a pattern of EU workers being exploited more. I never said that. I'm talking about the big picture of the whole industry. The added competition from EU drivers willing to work for shit pay and conditions is a hindrance to the conditions improving when a large contingent is ready to put up with any shit, it means British drivers will have to do the same or not get hired.

I dunno about you but I don't like sharing the roads with tired HGV drivers on 9 an hour (or a few pounds an hour in some cases - due to a legal loophole).

Foreign drivers are doing class one hgv work for minimum wage. They are all drunks. There are many sides to tHem as well. You have the warbers (sp?) drivers in the yellow and blue artics, they come over for 3 months at a time doing any loads undercuting British haulage companies. These dirty fuckers live in their cab 24-7/365. This is illegal as you must take 45 hrs rest out of lorry every weekend, like most of us who have a house and rent or mortgage, these fuckers don’t cos they live in the lorry. So they are breaking the law living in truck and work for less as they have no rent to pay.

Then you have the foreign drivers who willingly drive class one artics for minimum wage. Fair enough but most of them drive illegally by driving more than eu operating hours, they pull their tacho cards out, have multiple cards or manipulate electrics to drive 20 hrs a day, unscrupulous companies turn a blind eye as they are making shit loads by these drivers earning them big money and they are pretty much in the clear as a driver driving bent is on the driver not them

It’s fucked tbh. Alcoholic polish and Romanians driving artics for 100 hrs a week and only a few get caught
